cheerleaders culminate season with disney trip

WCS Cheerleaders at DisneyWhile many were working, sleeping and lounging, the varsity cheerleading squad rose early on President’s Day and headed to the Magic Kingdom.

After a long season of supporting and encouraging the varsity basketball team, the cheer squad had a chance to wind down and reap the rewards of their efforts.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL RETURNS

WCS baseball has reached state accolades over the years. The baseball program has witnessed the growth from a middle school program to a junior varsity program, and then to a full-fledged varsity program. The system has incorporated multiple teams operating during the spring season. However, as the program at WCS has grown and additional opportunities were presented for middle school athletes, middle school baseball players found themselves suited in varsity or JV outfits. Thanks to the high interest and abilities of several middle school baseball players, an official middle school team was rejuvenated for the 2013 spring season.

Jimmy Beno has spent much time and effort organizing and practicing with the players.  Be sure to show your support for the MS Baseball team as Coach Beno prepares our future varsity studs.

ATHLETICS: MOST NOTABLE

As a long-time overseer of WCS sports, there have been a few teams which have particularly drawn my attention. The successful baseball programs mentioned in the adjoining article, the “Trailblazers” basketball team of ’03, the Cinderella MS Basketball Team with Coach Koepka, the 14-1 inaugural varsity boys soccer season, as well as others.

This year, the varsity girls basketball team will be added to my recollection of outstanding teams. Coach Sarah Brown and troops fought hard despite adversity. Overcoming obstacles, the team constantly found themselves fighting hard to the finish. The accomplishments of the members of the 2013 varsity girls basketball team transcended the scoreboard display. The team should be, nay, must be applauded for their perseverance, character, and success as a fighting squad.

Many of these same girls now participate in the softball program. Taking the lessons and victories of the previous season with them, these girls have helped the team get off to an undefeated start.
